I miss the indicator light on my BlackBerry, and I'm wondering if there is a utility I can download to keep the screen illuminated longer when I receive a notification--say for 5 minutes or so. The behavior I'm looking for is the following:

1. iPhone is locked.
2. Email received pops up on notification center on lock screen.
3. Screen remains illuminated for 5 minutes, so I'll see the notification if I look at my phone anytime during those five minutes.

I'm on an iPhone 3GS, so the flash notifier isn't an option for me.

You're in luck!

The ModMyi repository in Cydia has just what you're looking for, and it's called "Lockscreen Dim Delay Control"

Once installed, it's accessed through iOS Settings, and allows you to set the backlight on lockscreen events to 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90 seconds, up to 2, 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.

This will decimate your battery life, but it sounds like just what you're looking for. I tried it out today with 5.0.1 and it seems to play nice.
