Way to switch between external speakers/built-in ones without unplugging cable?

I would like to know if there's a way to switch between my external speakers (5.1 set) and the iMac's built-in ones without having to unplug the optical cable located at the back each time.

Can you do it under SOUND in the System Preferences?

No, no option to do so.

The only way is to use speakers with a USB connection.
