Hey guys,

When I'm viewing video's (using flash) from the internet, the battery of my MacBook Pro 15'' Retina is draining very fast.

Is there a way to view flash video's (not only YouTube, every website) in HTML5?

There are plenty extensions for Safari 6.0.3 available, but since YouTube changed their layout no one works anymore. I'm currently running the latest beta of OS X Mountain Lion, 10.8.3 12D50. Any ideas?

Thanks!

YouTube does have a native HTML web version: http://www.youtube.com/html5

Flash video and HTML 5 are actually just programming languages, not video formats. They can accomplish many of the same things such as playing back a video, creating animations on a website, making a game you can play in your web browser, and much, much, more.

I use Chrome with "click to play" turned on. This prevents the loading of dozens of instances of flash when I have multiple tabs open. If I decide to "click through" to watch some flash video, I always close the tab when I'm done. This stops my fans from running and frees up my CPU for stuff I need it to do rather than wasting it on whatever Adobe would have it do behind my back.

I understand but the HTML5 YouTube option doesn't work on all video's.
There are many extensions, but I didn't found a right one that supports OS X 10.8.3 and / or the new interface of YouTube. Any of you guys know a good one?

Go to the html5 trial page in Youtube and disable it, then install the YouTube5 Safari extension. This will give you HTML5 YouTube vids not just on the YouTube site but on other sites with YouTube videos embedded.

Thanks to all, this is working for me as well. I'm running SL 10.6.8 on a 2007 iMac, and the recent Java exploit fix from Apple left me unable to watch a lot off YouTube videos. Adding the YouTube5 Safari extension fixed the problem!

Java has nothing to do with HTML5 or Flash video files.
