CarPlay Waze Alerts

So, when I use Waze through Carplay just for the alerts, they only come up as pop ups with no voice. Is it not possible to get voice alerts when not using navigation? When I use navigation, voice alerts work fine, but when not using navigation I just get pop ups with no sound. This is on a BMW 5 series. Thanks!

I use navigation for certain drives even if I know the way just for the police hiding on the highway. Never thought about using it the way you said maybe this setting? This is the way it is by default

There's a speaker icon in the top menu bar in-app. Tap/click that and you'll get 3 options - 1 of which is "Alerts Only" (I think that's the wording)

Yeah, I get voice alerts.
The strange behavior I get with Waze is the confirmations.
They are erratic.
Sometimes they will ask to confirm but most of the time, they don't.
That makes me worry about the quality of the data.
