My WD 150gb hard drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and reads fine on my old MacBook Intel Core Duo running OS X 10.5.8. I then plug it into a brand new MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo running 10.6.1) and it won't recognize it. The hard drive starts up, but it doesn't show up. Any ideas? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Usually old operating systems don't work on new machines. It's probably a firmware issue that only wants to play with SL.
I agree that this is probably a firmware issue, but I think you've got it a bit mixed up. The OP said the drive works on a Leopard Mac but NOT a Snow Leopard Mac, which suggests that the drive needs a firmware update.
