I purchased a 1TB WD mybook, for my iMac (2.8 Extreme), works on USB not on firewire, so I thought maybe the firewire port is bad, so I plugged my 2TB WD drive and that works fine. I then thought, it is the drive, so I plug it in to my daughters MB, and it works, but will not work firewire on my iMac ?

there have been plenty of examples of this happening, I would suggest updating the firmware, run disk utility repair permissions and if that doesn't work then return and get anpther unit.

this has happened to several friends of mine, however I have over 1TB of WD HDs (mirrored ofcourse) and have never had any problems
