WD backup software?

I have a mac-mini with OSX10.4.11 and a Western Digital external hardrive for backup, a WD MyBook Essential 2.0

The WD SmartWare app does not work/integrate with my Mac -and I have tried downloading version off the WD site, calling them, and the WD SmarWare won't recognize the MyBook

Does anyone know of any other free software I can dowload to get this backup to work?

You could always try CarbonCopyCloner, which allows scheduled and incremental backups.

I agree with this one, and there are a few other free solutions for backups, check the posts in the OS X tech tips in my signature for the list.
