WD Blue spin up/down issue

I recently purchased a Western Digital Blue 500GB 2.5" SATA HDD WD5000BPVT however I am experiencing lots of spinup/downs which freezes the system for a few seconds every few minutes or so. This HDD has built in ShockGuard and SecurePark feature which moves the head out of harms way. The MacBook also has a built in Sudden Motion Sensor. Could this be conflicting with this HDD?

Is it doing this when it's sitting motionless on a desk? If so, you might have a bad hard drive.
