At least I think...

It stopped mounting. A few months back, as a result (I think) of not correctly ejecting it a few times (accidentally...I bring my computer with my to class so I'm always unplugging things and plugging them back in again) my 1TB WD My Book Premium II decided to stop mounting.

I was just using it for backups and to store EyeTV recordings, so I haven't lost any irreplaceable data, but it's still a pain in the butt.

I opened Disk Utility and after reseting the HD a few times, it finally showed up in the list of drives on the left. I tried to erase it and got the following error:

POSIX reports: The operation couldn't be completed. No such file or directory.

Not really sure what this means. I plugged it into my roommate's PC and, while it didn't mount on his computer either, it showed up in his disk manager and showed the partitions and how much of the disk was being used. He wasn't able to format it either.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong or how I might go about solving the issue?

Things I've tried already:

  • Erase
  • Verify and repair
  • Tried Firewire and USB cords
  • Re-installed HD management software that it came with

I'm stuck!
