I'm trying to decide between the 500GB WD My Book Studio edition and the Lacie P3 (the "Porsche designed" one) 500GB Firewire drive.

Features aside, I would like to know which one is smaller and by how much. Anyone know the dimensions on either of these drives?

WD Studio

Height 6.5 Inches (Max)
Length 5.4 Inches (Max)
Width 2.1 Inches
Weight 2.60 Pounds

Lacie P3

Width: 4.4 inches
Depth: 7.4 inches
Height: 1.4 inches
Weight: 2 pounds

I rely on WDs myself. I am not a fan of LaCie. The Porsche line is also some what cheap. I would say you would have better luck with the WDs, IMO.

I like my new WD My Book Pro (not the one you want, OP, but hey). It's handy with its circular light (that indicates remaining drive space too). As well, it's a pretty nice size and fits right above my desk. As well, it can be disguised as a book (and also, the vents say things in morse code).

Ah this is great -- just the info I was looking for and fast.

synth3tik, what exactly do you mean by the Lacie P3s being cheap? You mean they don't look or feel nearly as high quality as they look in pics or what?

All I'm going to say is:

1. Get a firewire one. They rock! And they are faster then USB. Unless you NEED USB. In that case, get one that has both.
2. Fans suck.
