I have WD my cloud Home 8TB NAS, yes I now know it’s junk but it’s it’s to late. Cant setup status IP, can’t log in via browser etc etc

How the hell do you connect via smb to this drive? I can backup to TM while in MacOS fine, but if I go to recovery mode it sees the TM drive but it cannot connect to it? Says check Ip server address and all that? Is there a way to connect to it via smb in recovery mode? Or is this an issue again via WiFi in recovery mode?

I was testing something in Big Sur I wanted to try a restore but I cannot since I cannot connect to the drive via WiFi even if it sees it. It’s a bitch to drag my iMac to my router via cable but I will if I have to.

this WD my cloud home is the worst pos ever it uses public website through WD to connect to the device. I’m thinking maybe that’s the issue some how in recovery mode it that you need to log or connect to the device locally some how by using the option connect to server under restore recovery mode??

mom so lost, it sees the drive as TM but I cannot connect to it? Anyone else has this unit and has had issue? It’s a 8TB unit and I’m so mad I didn’t read the review, I never had a bad device where you cannot connect to it via ip or set static IP for device etc etc.....

it’s this herehttps://www.google.com/search?q=wd+my+home+cloud&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS724US724&hl=en-US&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjc6ePA48bqAhVChXIEHUeiAkQQ_AUoAnoECA8QAg&biw=414&bih=724&dpr=3#imgrc=kz-aDp9Njd0aoM

Cause I would like to do a clean install of the OS but I’m afraid after reinstall I won’t be able to connect to it and transfer my local account! Good thing I tried in recovery screen to connect to TM

So in order to have MacOS see TM backup file in Recovery mode you need to connect to the drives public filder

smb://guest:guest@MYCLOUD-first6numberserialdevice#/Public
So I had to drag my Time machine file into public folder by connecting to it this way inside MacOS than reboot in recovery and smb to that path for Mac OS recovery to see the file and you must connect as guest ONLY.

WD should burn in hell for even selling this device in a first place it only wants to connect via public domain website to your device and macs recovery doesn’t understand that so this is the only local way to connect toit! Even even using IP of the device doesn’t work!

im sure I’m not the first person to have this type of issues

I live in a condo and the Route and modem is tucked away on the 3rd floor and the iMac is in the room all the way on the first!! So running cat 5 cable sucks always need to drag the iMac upstairs if I want quick transfers, but hey once every 2-3 WiFi restore is not bad I guess only 3 days left lol!! It never failed before on me either so let’s see hahah!
