Hello,

I've owned a MyBook Studio 1TB from Western Digital for yearly a year now. I'm not exactly happy about it for a number of reasons - the "ticking" sound it makes when it's being written to and the disco-inspired light that they put on it for no apparent reason are both keeping me up at night. Yet, this is not my biggest problem.

I really need a way to disable the built-in "sleep" mode that puts the hard drive to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity. I can't have it freeze my computer for 4-5 seconds every time I need to write to a file on it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have the MyBook II edition and yes it would be nice if you could control the sleep feature - I have read about a way around it - unfortunately I can t remember where. But it was a small program running in the back ground accessing the drive every 5 minutes to prevent it entering sleep mode.
