WD Passport Drive

I have a 1tb Passport portable drive, it has a USB 3.0 connection, but says it supports 2.0 as well, issue is that randomly it will eject itself from the Mac, i've reformatted and checked the disk out and it seems to be OK, what would cause this? Is it likely the drive is bad?

To eliminate some potential points of failure:
Have you tried using another USB cable, another USB port on the Mac and another Mac (your signature indicates quite a few)?
