I just received a WD Passport (320 gig) for my girlfriend's Macbook and swapped the hard disks. It was an interesting experience. First off, opening the external was a bit difficult being all plastic clips. I broke 2 of the seven or so but it came back together perfectly. After pulling the HD off the SATA to usb thingy I started working on the Macbook. I used a filed flathead (originally for fixing glasses) to remove the metal bezel in the battery bay to expose the HD bay. Next, I pulled the original HD out and removed the housing and put in on the new HD. This is where I hit a bit of a rut. When I went to put the new HD in, the rubber guides/shock absorbers. that lead the HD into the bay crumpled inward blocking the bay. I had to pull the two guides out with tweezers and reset them. It was about 90 F and the computer had just been on so the glue holding the rubber guides in place may have been soft, worsening the problem. It took me a while to figure out how to get them back in, but the best way was to insert one guide almost all the way, hold the exposed end with a tweezers and then insert and removed the HD to set it back in place and then repeat with the other guide. So, if you try to do this, wait for your Macbook to cool before messing with the HD. Also, I didn't break any void stickers on the Passport, so I can reverse it if anything fails while still under warranty.

My girlfriend just got a Nikon D80 and was desperately in need of space, and I can always use a bus powered external for file transfer.
