I am on the phone with a sales rep and she is saying internally apple is trying to create an app for the sales reps to use so that they can put you on the list to reserve one and once everything cools down you will be able to get one
Yup, I get the same message now:
"We are temporarily unable to take iPhone orders. We apologize for this inconvenience. Please try again later."
It seems the Store.Apple.Com site is trying to ease the load on the AT&T validation servers.
The Apple side seems fine, but once it hands the account data off to "validate your eligibility" the carrier systems don't seem to be responding. Probably higher than expected load on a mid-cycle phone update.
I'm going to take a little break, and try again in an hour or so. It sounded like Apple had enough phones on hand that a few hours won't make much difference.

Agreed. I was able to pre-order one easily on the AT&T web site. My first attempt went through real quick.
That's what happened last year too, so I was not going to try Apple.com anyway.

Well I tried AT&T, and Apple. Tried multiple times on my iPhone iPad and MacBook got a error every time. Goodnight!

When I do that, it only gives me the option for the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 3GS. Doesn't give me an option to upgrade to a 4S. WTH?

You would think...i just hope they get it done soon, this is extremely frustrating..
Did you actually look and see which phone you where ordering? 4s isn't even an option on my upgrade screen.
OK clicked on the 4s itself and was able to...... hmmmm weird.

Once again, my FAN Company discount is screwing me royally. I HAVE to wait till 8:00 to literally talk to someone. Apple site....fail ATT site....fail.
