Don’t even bother with the Mini. It seems mostly unchanged from the 12, although they should all have new display engines per Apple. There is another thread on this that I saw earlier today, too. Great news if it's true! It would be great to see someone do scientific measurements on the PWM as we've seen the last couple of generations, to see if it's truly gone on this phone, or if it's just high enough frequency that it's not bothersome.
I have a 13 Mini on order- and though I don't have too much trouble with the flicker on my current device (12 mini), I know it does flicker like crazy- would almost be tempted to consider returning the 13 mini and upgrading to the Pro if I knew that there was very little to no flicker on it!

Apologies, the PWM seems mostly unchanged on iPhone 13 Mini. It’s definitely a nice upgrade overall. Pro models have the most significant PWM improvements.I found it to be a worthy upgrade on paper, with double the storage, the rumor that it'll run a bit cooler, the upgraded camera sensor and added camera features- to me it is worth it.
But as noted, if PWM is seemingly gone on the Pro, I would have to think long and hard about moving back to a larger phone, and maybe returning the mini to get a Pro.
No worries at all, I know the general theme is that the 13 and 13 Mini are not worthy upgrades for anyone with the 12/12 Mini and that is totally understandable- I am an oddball out in that I am excited by some of the small improvements that have annoyed me with the 12 mini.Apologies, the PWM seems mostly unchanged on iPhone 13 Mini. I am certainly hopeful that iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be drastically improved. 480Hz may still cause more mild issues for some users, but it should be manageable. No worries at all, I know the general theme is that the 13 and 13 Mini are not worthy upgrades for anyone with the 12/12 Mini and that is totally understandable- I am an oddball out in that I am excited by some of the small improvements that have annoyed me with the 12 mini.
I don't know a ton about PWM, but if the Pro is verified at 480Hz PWM, would we feel that is good enough that it wouldn't cause problems for most who are sensitive? I would have to think that if slow-mo video recording of the screen doesn't pick up the flicker, that even the more sensitive user's eyes would not notice it, either.
I will be foolishly hopeful as mine arrives tomorrow that there will be improvement in that regard on the 13 Mini, too.![]()
Thanks. My eyes adjusted to my 12 Mini, so I have not really had any noticeable problems after the first few days with it, but I mitigated by turning brightness up to about 95% brightness, and enabling reduce white point to darken it quite a bit. I do notice if I drop brightness down to 50% or so, it really does start to bother me even now- so what I did does seem to truly have helped.I am certainly hopeful that iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be drastically improved. 480Hz may still cause more mild issues for some users, but it should be manageable.
I think we’ll see at least a rate of 480Hz along with an incredibly low amplitude, basically meaning the display isn’t cycling on and off constantly.
I send you well wishes for the Mini. If it doesn’t work out definitely try an iPhone 13 Pro.
Zollotech did say it will have pwm as its oled but said he couldnt see it on cameraEvery Oled panel has it; zollotech makes a lot of mistakes
This is the main PWM thread, even if it says iPhone X:Following this thread.
