We really now have four notebook families....

Everyone is getting up in arms about the old MB having a better processor than the low end new one, i think you are not seeing it form apples POV...

White Macbook - Consumer laptop
Aluminium Macbook - Prosumer Laptop
Macbook Air - Prosumer portable
Macbook Pro - Pro laptop

Each person will buy a macbook to suit their needs.

I know that alot of people who live on these forums will moan and say but i want to surf, listen music and just plain do nothing important on an aluminium laptop... well thats up to you to spend the extra cash.

Everyone knows that most buyers will buy something beyond their needs just for aesthetics and such.

It seems the only people who are happy with the updates are those who know which catagory and therefor which notebook is perfect for their needs...

The white MacBook can't be considered a family on its own.
It belongs to the MacBook family.

It's just there to keep margins high.

The processor thing isn't as black and white as it looks. The one in the new Alu-Book has a better FSB and considerably lower power use (35W Vs 25W).

The white MacBook is no more its own "family" than the 17" MBP. It's just an outdated product Apple is selling for a little while.

It will be gone before too long.
