Hi all.
Me and familly have an Imac G5 running tiger.
We have this mac for a year now and we never actually did the users for the mac, so all this time it was like one user for the four of us...
And now we thought, "maybe it will be better to mac a user for each of us?"
So we dicided to do that.
The probleme is that we don't know how, after we do the users, to share files...

1)How do I give files to another user? (My wife has documents and I want to put them on HER account)

2)How do I share files? (I have songs my wife likes, and would like to share them with her)

I would be VERY happy is someone could help me! :)

Me and my family Really want to make users for everyone

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

you should have a public directory in your user folder under macintosh hd>>users>>~your user name~>public. this folder can be accessed by all users.
iirc, as i'm not on my mac right now.
edit: you know about fast user switching right?

Any files you want to share can either be placed in the Public Folder Drop Box of your User so that every user on the system can see them, or simply burned to a data CD and imported from there.

Once they are in the Public folder just get your wife to log into her user and grab the files.

The whole purpose of the User system is to keep the data safe from other users.

/Users/Shared

Well, at least on my machine there is this folder
/Users/Shared
which is accesible by any user.
Just use this one to put files all of you want to share (hence the name  )

You may want to inform yourselves about the concept of file permissions as well.

Firstly, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
I REALY APPRECIATE YOU HELP!

but i have one more question...
If I want to share a song with my wife (a song we both like), and like you say I put it in the public folder, the song will not be in my iTunes library anymore!
What will it do?
Will I not be able to play the song anymore because its in the public folder and not in my itunes library folder??

THANKS :)

If you want to share the whole library, follow the instructions here:

(Mitthrawnuruodo posted this already)
If it's just a few songs that both of you like, but you still want to maintain your own libraries, then just COPY the file to the shared folder and let the other import it from there.
This will create a duplicate of the song and therefore "waste" some space. But if it's just a few songs this doesn't matter, I'd say.
