Weather app annoying quirks

The new weather app has a couple of irritating usability quirks:

1. When opened in landscape orientation it insists on displaying the sidebar with all your locations. I don’t want the sidebar.

2. When I tap on the weather widget the weather app opens with my current location in a pop up dialog on top of the current location in the app. Why?! Just open to the app, the current location is already there! Now I have to close the pop up to see more detailed info on the main screen

Can they please hire real user experience personnel and not let the developers determine the UI

I had issue number 2 but I seemed to have fixed it.

I’m not sure if you’ll need to follow all the steps I took since I was experimenting trying to get the behavior to stop and I’m not sure what was the specific resolution.

I had three locations already saved: my current location and two other cities. I deleted the other two cities and tried to delete the current location tile but it wouldn’t let me so I was left with one tile.

I tapped on my weather widget. The weather app opened. As mentioned, the weather app opened with the pop up dialog showing a mini weather version with my city name. I think it had either a Plus sign or the word Add in the upper right corner of the pop up. I clicked to add the location and then I had two tiles. One was a current location which would presumably change as I travel from place to place. The other was the newly added one with my actual city name.

I went in general iPad settings to Weather and turned location to never. I think that left me with just one tile only in the weather app which was the one I added with my city name from the pop up dialog box.

I deleted the Weather app off my iPad.

Held the home button and wake buttons together until the iPad restarted.

Went to App Store and downloaded the weather app again and opened it. Denied permission to access my location. It opened showing one location tile with my city name.

Went back to Home Screen and tapped on the weather widget several times and each time it opened up to the weather app without the pop up box.
