I have an i5 MBP13 (2011)

I installed a Crucial M4SSD(64GB) drive and moved the existing HDD to the optibay.

I have two drives - Macintosh SSD (os & apps) & DATA HDD (inc all user data)
The home directory is defined as /Volumes/DATA HDD/Users/localadmin
(Note, there is still a users folder in the SSD that I don think is used)

Most things seems to be working properly.

When I launch PhotoBooth I get the message "There is no connected camera"
(I get the same when i launch Facetime)

The backlit keyboard does not work. When I press the F5 or F6 key a 'no entry' sign appears on screen.

I have since installed an app called lab tick which allows me to turn on the backlit keyboard manually. So I can conclude that the hardware on keys is fine. I just cannot use the F keys to control and also the light sensor for automatic brightness of keys does not work.

I am not sure whether my failing webcam or backlit keys are linked. Both were working fine before me SSD 'upgrade'.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks

This is a long shot, have you tried covering the camera with your hand? There is a light sensor there that automatically lights up the keyboard back lighting.

Have you tried restoring the MBP with the original HDD/SuperDrive to see if it works then? Process of elimination my friend.

I have not tried putting it all back together yet. I was hoping to find a solution first. That would be the last resort.

I'm reassured that although the backlit keyboard is not working, it DOES work with Lab Tick.

I thought resetting the SMC was gonna do it :(
