iPod touch Week 37 = Bad Screen / Week 38 = Good Screen (With Pictures)

I just confirmed this with my iPod touch, and my brothers. I got mine last weekend, he got his yesterday. The 4th and 5th numbers in my serial number are 37, the 4th and 5th numbers on his serial is 38. My screen is absolutely horrible and his is great. You notice an unbelievable difference when viewing them side by side. I've talked to my local Apple Store (Not really local, an hour and a half away) and they're holding one for me right now for me to come in tonight and exchange. I'm going to call them first though and make sure the serial number is the "Week 38" serial number, or i'm not making the trip. I'm not at all confident that I'd get a good screen with a "37" serial number.

Just wanting to clarify this information for anyone who is curious, and hasn't searched the forums for this different information.

Here you go. These are the exact same brightness levels, exact same movie, encoded the same, everything. The "good" one is my brothers week 38, the "bad" one is my week 37.

indeed, these are very nice pics, thank you, everybody should see it.

Im also amazed you can get same frame of the movie on both devices, I never managed to get the movie stop at the moment I wanted..

Glad the pics proove my point so well...
About the same frame on both screens..It took a few tries. :)
 
I'll tell you what...a lot of people would say the "good" one looks washed out and the blacks are better on the "bad" one, atleast in those pictures. If i was shopping for a tv, I would want the touch....
 
That's what my screen looks like (the one on the top and the one on the left). My week 38 iPod ROCKS! The screen is beautiful and no hissing sounds that I can hear. There is hope for the rest of you. If you have a faulty screen, return it for a week 38. I am SOOOOO glad I pre-ordered!

But you're not shopping for a TV, you're shopping for a little handheld device that you watch movies on, and when the blacks on those movies are negative and shiney and gray, it makes the movies on your little handheld device look really bad...And it frustrates you that you spent $400 on a movie watching device, that makes it really hard to watch movies on.

Do you currently have an iPod touch that has the problem that we've all had?
 
Auto Brightness?

Does the auto-brightness feature work on the week 38 iPod touch? The auto-brightness on my week 37 iPod touch doesn't seem to work very well/at all.

Oh, I completely understand the problem and I know it sucks. I was just saying that in those photos, i think the touch is throwing the better image. I actually just bought a 37 week today and so far so good. I AM going to compare it to my friend's iphone this weekend though. Mine seems to be fine. I do need to watch some more dark video on it though. The silence of the lambs clip looked fine.

My "bad" one is a 37 week. I'm going to the Apple Store tonight to get another 37 week (that's all they have) so I'm REALLY hoping I won't have to go back for a third one.
 
that's a really big difference!! i thought that is was a small diff but seeing this!!
