Hi, not to beat a dead horse here but I was in the somewhat rare position last night of having two iPod Touches in my possession -- one with a Week 37 serial number and the other with a Week 38. So I loaded up the exact same movie files onto each one, set the brightness levels exactly halfway up, and took the pictures posted below. They are not the highest quality pics, but you get the idea.
I know that differences in video quality have been pretty well established by now, but I wanted to corroborate the earlier posts for a few reasons. First, I don't really believe Apple's official line that "only a small number" of iPTs were affected. My guess is that they're just being cheap and lazy and hoping most people won't notice. I imagine there are a lot of people out there with Week 36 or Week 37 iPTs who haven't really scrutinized dark video scenes yet and aren't aware that there might be a problem. Everything else about the device is so cool that it's easy not to worry about it. But for $400, you probably want a fully-functioning device. Finally, I wanted to contribute a little something to this forum because you've all been very cool.
P.S., Bonus points if you can name the four movies. The first three are easy. The fourth one... not so easy.
