Weekly Photo Contest - August 31 - September 7th (Theme: Change)

Subject - Change

Rules:

1. You may only submit one photo per contest.

2. Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

3. The contest runs for exactly one week, starting NOW! (see time/date stamp at the start of this thread)

4. At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible. (Judge has 24 hours to make decision)

5. The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme)

I believe Mac users are (or should be) enlightened by the Think Different campaign of old; I am inviting participants to think different & be as creative as possible in their interpretation of the theme "Change".

Let your creative juices flow, be wild in your ideas, & above all have fun!

It's amazing how much the night sky can change in just a few minutes.

Thanks for the contribution everyone! The varied ways in which participants tackled the concept "Change" is truly fascinating, photographic technique/skill/vision aside, kudos to all of you for taking part; another reason why I am happy to be a member of the MR community.

This week's results are:
1) Winner

It was tough deciding between 1) & 2); but this takes the cake. emtrey tackled what would be a cliche' with photographic aplomb, using selective depth of field & careful focussing to hint on a dual meaning (whether emtrey intended that or not!) of the concept of "Change" as in "money:

a) emtrey chose the meaning of "money, loose change" to interpret the theme

b) the focus is on ONE DOLLAR, which is a bit of a jump from the generally accepted "value" (double-meaning again!) of change; $1 is higher than the nickel & dime type of change which one would think of ordinarily………inflation, anyone?

The winning photo's subtle message via the use of the $1 coin (as opposed to for e.g a quarter), intentional or not, hit me hard as to "the Times they are a Changin"; social change not just change in cost of living. Golden Liberty……is our Golden Liberty, or "liberties" changing too I wonder?
Food for thought, fodder for the emotions connected to these issues; that is what made it this week's winner, not just photo-technique (which was very good)

Congrats!

2) 1st runner -up
my goodness what a close second; the way the leaf curls contributes to the inevitable change that time brings on, the difference in color/tone/hue between the underside of the leaf & the surface; the Nikon 50mm ƒ1.8 swirly bokeh (google that) reminiscent of CZ Jena lenses of old that contributes to the "movement" inherent in the concept of Change, the highlights & shadows intermingling & changing into each other………

Even if all this was not in the mind of AlexH at the time, it is there in the image, & it hit me hard; & that is what matters.

3) 2nd Runner up:

It's amazing how much the night sky can change in just a few minutes.
Again a close call for 3rd place, contending with Sideonecincy; but this one prevailed for aesthethic, artistic & technical merits. The Rotation caused by the Earth makes this image, it is the Earth that moves not the stars.
What an interesting revelation on the concept of Change! Sometimes it is we who are changing, more than the world/Universe around us.

Congrats!

emtrey is the winner, so it is now up to the winner to choose a theme for next week's photo contest.

I will provide comments & critique for the other entries in a later post.

Wow, I am truly stunned and honored! There are some fantastic shots in here that I thought for sure had it locked up, I was not expecting this!

(I really need to thank my sister, as it was her dollar I borrowed for the shoot. ;) )

Thanks! Next contest forthcoming!

Congrats, emtrey, well done! Thanks for a very good and thorough job judging, Joseph.
