I have a MacBook, call it Drive A. I have a bootable external firewire drive with two partitions - Drive B and Drive C. Until a month ago, I did a daily backup of Drive A onto Drive B using Carbon Copy Cloner. Then I stopped the backups (and the use of Drive B), but continued to use Drive C for other stuff.
Today I booted from Drive B, it was the first time since the backups stopped. As soon as I logged in, it automatically updated itself as a clone of Drive A, without me telling it to (and without me running CCC). Everything that was a month old on Drive B was changed to the current version on Drive A.
What might have caused this automatic cloning? It only happened once, and now all the drives are behaving as they should (i.e. Drive B is not updating itself on its own).
thanks
