Jailbroken/unlocked with Redsn0w & ultrasn0w, OS 3.1.3, firmware 5.13.04
I was using File2Mail from Cydia to send system logs when suddenly it powered down. I have been having random powerdowns for a while, and was looking to email the syslog when ironically it powered down.
I restarted and it read the battery at below 20%. Another restart, and back to about 80% (which was where it was at before the crash).
Anyway, later extraction of the syslog revealed the following entry:
"Jellys-J-Phone SpringBoard[29]: Shutting down immediately due to kIOPMPSAtCriticalLevelKey battery notification"
So I looked through the rest of the log and this shows up pretty much before each crash in the last week. I notice if I have the battery charging, this never happens. I had resynced the battery about a week before I started logging.
So it seems to be a power issue but is it the firmware not reading the battery correctly, is it the battery crapping out (over 18 months old), or is it the ultrasn0w placing a higher consumption demand than the battery can supply at once and so it just gives up?
Would replacing/upgrading my battery help alleviate the problem?
Through some confluence of circumstances I am stuck with the unlocked phone, so no, going to stock OS is not an option at this time.
