Hi everyone. Having a really weird issue on my mother’s iPhone 6S+.

Her charger is plugged into her computer, so before she goes to bed she charges it to 100% and then sits it on her bedside table and doesn’t touch it until morning. She normally finishes charging around 2-3am (she works nights). The last few days, the battery has been dropping at like 4-5am from 100% to nearly drained with no visible activity. When she wakes up, it’s at 1-10% max.

I’ve been through the usual suspects. No background app refresh. No mail issues that I can see. Notifications at a minimum, if at all. I’ve checked the battery usage, and it just says “app data unavailable” during the period that it dies.

Obviously it’s an older phone - her battery health isn’t terrible (82%) but it could be better. But it’s just the last week at around the same time it seems to be just draining completely. Any ideas? Photo attached.

It appears that the battery probably needs to be replaced. What does Settings-> Battery-> Battery Health show?

82%. Not amazing, but surely shouldn’t drop almost 100% instantly. Especially when it can be used during the day just fine haha.

Battery health isn’t the end all be all. It’s a rough estimation. Given how close it is to 80%—the point Apple recommends replacing, and battery degradation signs are very apparent, I would advise replacing it. At the very least, schedule a genius appointment and get it looked at.
