I’ve got a 2020 MBP (not M1) for my personal computer but I also have a HP laptop from work. I need to use both computers frequently. I just got a HP usb-c dock G5 that I plan to connect with an external monitor and keyboard. I know the dock does the charging, but I will be switching the host between the HP and my MBP many times, so The MBP won’t be connected to the dock all the time (only when I need the external Monitor and keyboard). I’d like to keep my MBP connected to power all the time though, so I will likely keep the original apple charger connected to the MBP. My question is, when I plug the dock in (and presumably will charge via the dock), since it’s also connected to the apple charger, will it hurt the battery?

A battery should request a certain charge rate and use nothing more than that.
I honestly don't know what would happen if you were to effectively connect 2 "chargers" though I would suspect it will be ok.
However, I have a M1 MBA and it's been solely used with the supplied Apple charger though I'm now needing to connect my Caldigit TS3+ so I can do other things. This dock will also charge the Mac.
I just intend to disconnect the Apple charger and use the dock for all my needs.
When I don't need the use of the dock I'll leave the MBA uncharged for as long as I can and then just plug in the Apple charger again.
Personally I wouldn't have both plugged in at the same time but that's just my choice. There is nothing scientific about my choice, it's just my preference.

If you plug in two chargers (for example a 65W dock and the 87W Apple charger) the Mac will always use the more powerful charger.
