I did a clean install of High Sierra and all was well except I noticed that Safari was not able to pull up tabs open on the iPhone and iPad (I have Safari checked off in iCloud settings on the iMac 5k).
A few hours ago, I went to see if I could figure out the problem and clicked the two squares icon at top left of Safari. A white window opened and then the iMac screen started to blink.
I quit Safari when I was able to view the dock and then the screen went black for 5-10 seconds followed by a restart.
Since then, my iMac fans have been running full blast through a second restart (that I initiated).
Activity monitor was showing mdworker, mds_stores as being likely culprits with the latter having 4 processes each using 70-80% CPU for a time. I went into System Preferences and re-added all of my external drives to the privacy area and now am finding processes not taking more than 10% of CPU time but the fans are still going.
Any ideas???
