Weird Electrical USB Sparks

Hey guys

Sometimes I notice that when I plug my USB hard drive into my macbook whilst my speakers are plugged into the jack, I see little orange flashes while the USB cable is outside the port.

I also hear a noise in the speakers.

Any ideas?

Is your macbook still in warranty? Sounds like something is shorting out.

Yup, it's still in its' 1st year but I have AppleCare after that anyway.

Did you discharge any static on you, the MBP, and the USB device? If you use the grounded 3-prong cable for the magsafe it will ground the computer, and you can ground yourself any the USB device by touching the outside of the computer.

Do you know it's not te hard drive or the cable? I would at least try a new cable.
