This evening when I was looking at my contacts on my nMP, I had triplicates of 95+% of all of them, went to my mini and my rMBP (on Mojave PB) and no duplicates. They are all signed into iCloud and set to sync contacts. Anybody have a clue as to what happened?

Are you sure some of the duplicates aren't in the "On My Mac" section? If you show all your contacts, you may see duplicates, especially if you've ever signed out of iCloud on that particular computer.
