Recently I've been having weird problems with keyboard and mouse input being ignored, it's started happening soon after installing the Magic Trackpad software and BetterTouchTool.

I'm not sure what causes it, but a couple of time I've become unable to type - it just ignores alphanumeric key-presses. I say alphanumeric, because when this has happened I've still been able to control iTunes, eject discs etc., so the keyboard connection isn't the problem.

I've had similar issues before when I've turned on mouse keys by mistake (press alt 5 times, it lets you move your cursor by pressing keys around the u-i-o area), but this hasn't been the problem recently.

I don't think BetterTouchTool was the problem, as I was still able to use the gestures that it adds, and the process hadn't crashed.

I was also unable to use the on-screen keyboard viewer, when I pressed keys on the keyboard they were highlighted on screen, so OS X was recognising that they were being pressed, but just not typing them anywhere.

The last time this happened, I also became unable to click on anything (clicks just stop working soon after the typing stopped).
I could move the cursor, pause and play iTunes, see the keys I was pressing on the keyboard viewer... but nothing else happened.
I tried the power button to put my Mac Pro to sleep, when I woke it again the problem was exactly the same.

I didn't have any option but to kill the power, and when it started again the problem was gone.

Any idea what could cause this, and hopefully, what could stop it happening again?
