weird lag in games like portal???? and how to check if i got an i7

hey guys just recieved the comp and started up portal 1 and had severe lag???? everything was on high and native and no matter how low i put the display settings in just kept giving me screen tear/... also i have ordered an i7 27 incher and i would like to know how to check if i got what i ordered... thanks guys

Applications > Utilities > System Profiler

Until the initial Hardware header, look at

• Processor Name
• Processor Speed
• Total Number of Cores.

Turn vsync on in game settings. It prevents screen tearing.
