My Series 8 45mm has started acting up. Of course it’s about a week out of warranty coverage.

I started using a new watch face, maybe coincidental, but soon after wrist detection seemed to stop working. It sometimes works but then heart rate sensing seems to stop working. I’ve unpaired and set up as new twice. The first time fixed wrist detection but broke heart rate, the second time fixed heart rate but same to have broken wrist detection.

If I open the heart rate app it will sense for a second or two, then the watch locks.

Are the sensors going bad?

Also I should add that detailed sleep tracking seems to have stopped as you can see in the image.

If you un-paired and set up as new, without restoring, then it does seem like it could be a hardware issue. Did you do the 10.5 update? If not that might be worth doing.

as above - update to the latest OS, and setup as new, not restore.
If the problem persists, contact Apple. Even if it is a HW issue, they should be able to diagnose it and then you can take appropriate next steps

Have you run an ECG yet? I’d give that a try. Also, do you have any 3rd party apps installed?

ECG just sits there like it’s not detecting my finger, and eventually goes to what looks like a screensaver with the current time on it.

FWIW the heart rate monitor is working now, but it still seems to be locking when on wrist. I may try re-pairing a third time to see if it helps. I’m wondering if the issue could be on the iPhone (13Pro).

ECG as well as heart rate should be completely independent from phone, I have a 13PM paired to Ultra2 and S7 and no issues.
What OS versions are you running, both watch and phone?
And I assume you cleaned the back of the watch thoroughly?

Everything is working now but ECG. My watch's warranty expired on May 6th and it started acting up on May 9th. I just got off a support call that makes me think they are going to replace it anyway (without Blood-O2 sensor functionality, which I'm OK with). 3 days out of warranty and they are doing the right thing. 👍
