iPod Weird noise and picture issues with movies on 60GB ipod

I have a 60 GB ipod video that I am trying to view movies on.
I am usually using an mpeg file that I convert to ipod using visualhub. everything goes smoothly until I try to watch the video. When it's playing it is constantly making a morse code type sound and the video has small black pixel type things moving about the screen. The movies play fine in itunes with no problems.
Any one else experiencing anything similar? Any ideas on how to correct it?
