I have a friend with an ibook and it was working fine until one day all the sudden it started making a spinning noise and he restarted it then on startup it beeped.

possible

That could be it but I think it was only one and the computer was working before so how could no RAM be installed

My MacBook Pro beeped once a few weeks ago and I was startled at first. I later learned that it was just a freak thing. This happens sometimes; the Mac will beep once 'accidentally.'

yYour friend could try and boot it in diagnosic mode and do a full hardware check (If i recall right you shut right down, then when you power it back on press and hold the D key) . It can take a while.

If there is an error it will iwht a format like like 4MOT/2/40000004:0x3cc5BF90

If he gets an error code, call the friendly *** at AppleCare and they sould be about to tell what the code is if they can be bothered to look it up.

(or they will just tell him to clear the PRAM to get him off the phone )

Yeah call Applecare and pay $50 to get some guy from India to look up your question in a manual. Good luck with that one. Last time I had a problem I called CDW and talked with a tech guy for about half and hour and I didn't even buy my computer there.
