Weird Powerbook Problem

My sister is using an old 12 powerbook on of the first the 867 model. anyway she went out one day and cameback and the computer was reset, all her music was gone, all the settings, desktop image, and the settings for individual programs were reset, it was like another user was created (which was my first instinct, and not the case) any have this happen before. How do you fix it.
