Why is the 16GB / 1TB / 8-core GPU selling for $1200 ($450 off) while the 16GB / 1TB / 7-core GPU is selling for $1400 ($200 off) at B&H?

Any reason to not buy the 8-core GPU model? I think I came across a post here that mentioned that the 7-core GPU model runs cooler. Not sure if that means that the 8-core model runs hot in absolute terms?

I currently have a base M1 MBA but the 8GB of RAM isn't enough for me. I just need to run 1 4K monitor for 4K video streaming. I don't game at all. Will the 7-core GPU model be good enough (assuming there is a reason to buy the 7-core GPU model over the 8-core GPU model)?

No reason at all to not get the 8 core. I would absolutely go for that model at $1200, that’s a great price for that spec

I just came here to post that such price just make me drool over that outdated M1 Macbook's design, given the specs, eh!
But, yeah, Im not in USA, no deals like that in Europe.

People who order such top-end config, probably also add the 8-core GPU option.

So that retailer bought much more in bulk for the 8-core GPU option, receiving bigger discounts from Apple, so they can sell it cheaper to you.

I actually prefer the outdated design. The slim designs of the Jone Ive period are perfect for Apple Silicon. The current designs should have been made for Intel machines since they produce much more heat. If the notch on the newer Macs had FaceID, then I wouldn't complain.

Probably because it’s a mass produced stock config Apple made for resellers. People who spend money on RAM and storage aren’t likely to save $50 on GPU.
But why drop the price by an extra $200? Doesn't it make sense for the 8-core model to be only $50 more expensive than the 7-core model, not cheaper?

Could be an overstock issue for B&H. They might have anticipated greater sales of that model that didn't materialize, so they're stuck with excess inventory and are using a deeper discount to entice buyers.

Couldn’t agree more. So glad I bought the fully loaded M1.

Really not the first time certain models get bigger discounts that the other ones. I would get it and enjoy it, don’t overthink it. Just found a great deal, there’s nothing negative surrounding these 8 core gpu models.

Well, that must be it because they sold out of the Space Gray.

The link you have is for the higher priced one. Here's the cheaper one. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1604865-REG/apple_z12b_mgne_05_bh_13_3_macbook_air_with.html

The current design is thinner than the outdated one , despite of the appearances

I will be more specific - huge bezels are what make it look outdated, otherwise its rather good looking desing which, btw, is quite a bit sturdier than current M2 Air.

Is it? What do you base that on? I've seen no reports of problems with the M2 MacBook Air based on the sturdiness of the case. I also haven't seen the same complaints about screen cracks that you see with the M1 MacBook Air.
