have an oldish old 3tb sea gate usb drive which has been mafunctjoning. It only seems to start up when it’s been off for a while and it will work for a bit and then I’ll get errors and the next time I start up it won’t mount.

I assumed therefore it was likely to be the enclosure however weirdly it won’t even attempt to start up either:

Taken out of the enclosure and put in a separate bought enclosure
Taken out of the enclosure and plugged into a esata to SATA cable that says on the packet is for 3.5 inch drives and provides 12v power.
Plugged into the usb 3 socket of my thunderbolt to usb3 adaptor.

It only starts hen plugged into a usb 2socket either of my 2011 iMac or my 2009 Mac mini which is such a pain as there is over 2tb of films on it so it’s goong to take so long to get everything off it.

Any ideas ?
