iPod Weird: Registered iPod Shuffle; Apple Says Serial # NOT Valid

It's weird because I read it off the box AND the iPod itself. It was bought at an Apple retail store. Apple's online registration finally had to ask for the part number (which it didn't dispute).

Anyone else with this problem?
