Weird screen artifact.

Woke up this morning to this on my MacBook Pro 2,2. It is out of warranty, so I cannot send it back.

Is this a LCD defect or graphics card? I do not want to spend AU$450 and find out it is something else.

Sorry about the crummy image quality, my iPhone was the only camera I had handy.

Looks like the LCD panel to me.

I wish you luck, as I have no idea what it would cost to have repaired.

It looks a bit like the 'Growing Crystal Failure' listed on Appledefects here:

Doesn't offer anymore insight or suggestion on that page though but it looks like curtains for the LCD

Thanks for the responses. It will cost AU$450 to get a replacement panel and I feel competent in fixing it. I've replaced a logic board on an iBook G4, here's hoping it is easier then that.

It won't be that bad.

The connector is the most difficult, as they then to be fragile. I've seen them pop off the pcb before. Keyboard connectors too, so be gentle.
