Weird signal changes is this normal

Usually I get 2-3 bars at home but when I send a text message I get 4 bars then it goes back to 2-3 bars why does sending a text change my signal.

it has nothing to do with sending a text, the bars are based on the numbers from a logarithmic scale that shows signal strength of the connection between your phone and tower, as opposed to the strength of the tower's "broadcasting" signal.
