Like to have some of the Mac regulars weigh in on this one.

My iP4 was doing a couple mildly flakey things such as the screen would sometimes flash when the phone was unlocked and after a call when I would take the phone from my ear it would be a bit slow to bring the screen back up to disconnect the call.

This morning I thought I would simply restore it as that fixes many little errors. When I selected restore iTunes said that there was updates available for the OS. In the window it looked like OS4 but I figured I see what it did.

After the download was complete and the restore processed and been going the image of the iP4 on my summary page went from an iP4 to an image of a 3GS- odd...

Then as the restore neared completion the name of the phone went to "iPhone" rather than my name. And all other info such as serial number and phone number were listed as N/A.

Just before the restore had completed a pop up screen alerted an error had occurred and the phone was unable to restore.

Multi attempts with a Apple tech proved fruitless and they are shipping a new iP4 that will arrive tomorrow.
