hey all,

so i'm having some weird/annoying problems with time machine on my girlfriend's macbook. we have a 500gb lacie external drive hooked up via usb. on my macbook, time machine worked flawlessly for the initial backup and continues to work for hourly/daily backups. on her machine, time machine won't complete the initial backup. it starts up fast, but when it gets to about 20 gb transferred it slows down to a crawl. after about 45 gb, the copying window disappears as if it were finished - only it isn't. on the backup disc, i still have the in progress file. if i check out time machine system prefs, it says i have no backup. so i tell time machine to back up now, which opens a new copy window to finish the last 5 gb it didn't copy before - only it's going at a speed of about 1 kb/5 minutes. what the hell? does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?
