I recently activated two-factor authentication for my Apple ID.

Now each time I log in to i. e. icloud.com from my computer with Safari I get

1.) presented with with a pop-up saying that my "Apple ID is being used to sign in to a new device" - which is not true as it is always the same computer (from the same location);

2.) see in the browser window the field into which I have to put the verification code;

3. get, after clicking "Allow" in the pop-up described under 1.), ON THE SAME COMPUTER a second pop-up with the verification code (in the text also saying that my "Apple ID is being used to sign in to a new device" - which is again nonsense). This code is being sent only to my computer; it is not being sent i. e. to my iPhone.

This seems to me to be completely idiotic. In all other places where I use two-factor authentication (i. e. some financial institutions) the verification code is, of course, being sent to a different device (i. e. my iPhone). Only Apple sends the code to the same device. And nobody but Apple claims with each login again that this would be happen from a "new" device.

Where is the additional layer of security if I get the verification code sent to the same device from which I want to log in? What is good about this kind of two-factor authentication?

Additionally, why is Apple claiming each and every time that this would be a login from a "new" device?

I probably have to call Apple about this, but before I do this I would like to know what people here have to say about it.
