Weird VLC audio issue

Hey Guys,
I am trying to play a 720p h.264 AAC MP4 file from Mactubes. I can not get the video to play at a decent frame rate in Quicktime with Perian, but the video plays just fine in VLC as expected. The audio works great in QT, but in VLC it sounds choppy and muffled and low quality!

Im stuck here! Any suggestions?
