Ok, so i was haning out with some peeps (yep, i said peeps) who had their iphones and we were tlaking.. and they showed me that you can DELETE ALL when you open your trash.. but i dont have that.. i go to MY trash folder and I havr to click on and delete each one individually
 
When I go into the mail app and navigate to my trash folder (the one with the trash can icon beside it not the one on the gmail server) and I select edit if I do not pick any of the messages the delete button says delete all.

I think a firmware update should fix that for you, can't remember exactly when but it was a fairly recent change.
 
I have the NEWST firmware.. in fact i JUST got my phone a week ago!!!

I went to my trash and it doesnt show teh DELETE ALL.. i wonder if it has to do with the type of mail i have
