I was wondering who else is using it and if anyone knows how to actually get it to save the previous session?

It is easy to go to history, have it open it that way, but I was hoping somebody has found out what I might do to fix it.

Put it in a safe place and don't install over it

Heck--even if you install over it, the old version goes into the Trash. Fish it out and save to a safe location before you empty the Trash. Really, this ain't that hard.
