Well, as the topic asks, am I crazy for making this move? The 12 Pro Max is out of the question because I'm honestly sick of the size and weight of my 11 Pro Max.

What's really, really pushing me towards the non-Pro 12 are the colors. I'm so done with silver, black and gold. The pacific blue is yawn-inducing. The basic 12 has such fantastic colors, I can't even decide what to get. Red? Blue? Green? All look amazing.

But I'll give up the telephone lens and better portrait shots. I currently have 174 portrait photos in my library out of a total of around ~4000 pictures dating back to the iPhone 7 Plus days.

I. CAN'T. DECIDE.

Hard to say. The 11 pro Max’s are beautiful phones, but like you said heavy when putting in a pants pocket.
I have a 12 (white), and what I like about mine is the lighter weight, the zoom and larger text setting for me is big. It takes good photos too.
Good thing about buying one now, is you have until 1/9 to return it, if it’s not for you.

Easy. Decide if you really want that extra lens for your photography. You will be the best judge for that. Plan from there.
They’re all great products, there is no wrong or right.

I went from the XS Max from the 12 and I’m happy... at times I wonder if I should’ve gone 12 pro because of the telephoto but it’s not like I used it that much on my previous phone.

I'd say it boils down to this: Are you planning on using a case? If you are using a case, then the color of the phone is largely irrelevant since only the camera module sticks out.
