Howdy,

After having an iPhone 2G, then 3G... I finally gave in... Bought a new allu macbook :)

I'm completely new to OSX / macbooks etc.. So any tips on apps or doing things etc. So far i've gotten MSN, IRC and VLC on it.

Mine came in the mail yesterday and I'm also a new mac user. All I can say is make sure you set up time machine and definitely give spaces a try, it's pretty cool.

Also, don't you think this is the best keyboard ever? :apple:

Just spend a couple days fooling around with it. Also, there are helpful hints on Apple's website as well as Mactips (I think it's mactips.org?) I also put a widget on my dash that gives me a new mac tip every day. Pretty crazy that I've owned a mac for the past 2.5 yrs and I still learn something new at least every week. I love these machines.

have fun.

i've been using leopard since the day it came out, and i've yet to use spaces... maybe one day.

you'll have a great time.

download tinkertool (adjusts certain hidden os x settings)

download iStat Pro (monitors system performance + battery in dashboard)

download caffeine (keeps the display from dimming)

set up spaces (i.e mail+ical in space 1, safari+ichat in space 2, itunes+iphoto in space 3). it's really great.

hold shift and invoke expose (4 fingers sliding down)

hold shift and invoke dashboard (F4)

press control, option, command 8 :)

so many great and fun things you can do!!

Carbon Monoxide!

Looks like everyone else has your question covered - just wanted to point out that by the look of the soot you've got building up above your fire you've got carbon monoxide being produced - get a CO alarm, and get it inspected by a gas fitter! Just 400 ppm will kill you fast! DO THIS NOW!!

Do yourself a favor and get rid of MSN for mac.. it's a total tragedy!
Get Adium instead. Very nice little app! :D

I would get a USB hard drive and start your back ups now. It will make it a lot easier, and then when the time to use a back up comes around Time machine will be second nature to you.

Congrats!

You will love it!! Expose setup in the corners of the screen is a pretty cool feature but most are on the nice multitouch trackpad already! There are a few you could setup though I'm sure.

Welcome aboard, we are glad to have in the fold. Several folks have already said to just poke around and I agree. also be sure and set up Time Machine now while you don't have a lot of file to back up. You will save yourself a ton of time in the long run. Enjoy! :D
