iPod Touch is cheaper, has retina, has twice as much storage (which is much needed), has true one hand operation, and is a truly portable pocket device, so it can be used as a cheap iPhone for people who have a hotspot device.
If I was going to buy an iPad again, i'd rather spend $50 more and get a refurb iPad 3 now.
For home use, i'd rather have the 10" screen. For use on the go, i'd rather have a pocket device.
I just think the iPad mini was a lukewarm compromise, and this is one of the first devices Apple has released that is inferior to it's predecessors. I don't think Steve Jobs would have given this the green light.
